All About Dr. Tracy Schrems!

Dr. Tracy Schrems is an English Professor here at St. Bonaventure University, and she is one of the greatest people you will ever meet. Dr. Schrems’ connection to St. Bonaventure starts when she was three years old. When Bob Lanier took the St. Bonaventure Basketball team to the final four, people went and met the team getting off the plane in Buffalo. Dr. Schrems' parents went to congratulate the team, and when Bob Lanier got off the plane he greeted her parents and a three-year-old Dr. Schrems.

She teaches freshman, undergrads, and non-majors. I took Clare 110 (Comp and Crit) with her, which is now called Writing 101. She teaches Writing 101 and 102, and also Clare 209 Art and Literature. She has also published English as a Second Language (ESL) Textbooks in South Korea. She studied English as an undergrad at Mercyhurst University, and also received her certifications to teach high school and ESL there as well. She received her masters in English from St. Bonaventure, and received her PHD in English from the University at Buffalo. She wrote her dissertation about the Marvel Comic Universe, and if that wasn’t cool enough she worked with Stan Lee (the creator of Marvel) on her dissertation.

Some fun facts about Dr. Schrems are that she can speak five languages: English, Korean, Polish, German, and Spanish. She plays six instruments: piano, trumpet, French horn (her best instrument), baritone horn, cornet, and tuba if she has too. She enjoys scuba diving, and loves Disney. She likes to listen to Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Abba, but if she is working or studying she listens to Classical music. She was a NCAA DII swimmer at Mercyhurst, and she swam the 200 Butterfly. She quotes her swimming career as “I would love to say I was good, but I truly wasn’t.” And that may be the best thing about Dr. Schrems: her brutal honesty.

She is married to a fellow Disney freak who is a firefighter, EMT, and a shop supervisor at a woman’s prison. She has a mentally handicapped 22-year-old son whom she describes as: “...incredibly spoiled and the light of my life.”

Dr. Schrems was the woman’s rugby coach for eleven seasons. As the coach the team won four state titles, two regional titles, and was the assistant advisor for woman’s rugby at nationals in 2011.

Dr. Schrems commutes about an hour and a half one-way to teach at St. Bonaventure. She is truly a role model for anyone at this school, is like my mom away from home. She calls her students Schremlings, and even if you have her once you are a Schremling for life.
